10:00 - 11:30: Hack the Lab @LU (In-person)

Location: University of Latvia, LU Dabas Māja, Jelgavas iela 1, Rīga, 701.telpa, 7.stāvs.

Hack The Lab — a short, hands-on morning lab (max ~2 hours) where universities and partners run practical sessions: a 30-minute overview of institutional opportunities followed by a ~1-hour expert Q&A/workshop and demos. It gives students and teams direct access to research, tools, datasets and domain experts to jump-start prototypes and technical validation.

You’re welcome to visit the Sports Science Laboratory at the University of Latvia, where our lead researcher Zane Šmite can give an insightful tour. Zane can talk about how sensors and other technologies can be developed so that athletes, coaches, and clients can truly use them in practice.

There are many products on the market that measure performance or movement, but very few provide meaningful guidance on what to actually do with that data afterward — this is exactly what our sports scientists are working on.

Zane can also share examples from the VPP Sports research project on grassroots sports and the MikroTik project focused on monitoring young athletes.

We’d be glad to arrange a visit and discuss possible collaboration directions.

Location: LU Dabas Māja, Jelgavas iela 1, Rīga, 701.telpa, 7.stāvs.

Participation in this event is optional.

12:15 - 14:15: Hack the Lab @RSU (In-person)

Location: Medicīnas izglītības tehnoloģiju centrs, Anniņmuižas bulvāris 26A, Rīga

Hack The Lab — a short, hands-on morning lab where universities and partners run practical sessions: a 30-minute overview of institutional opportunities followed by a ~1-hour expert Q&A/workshop and demos. It gives students and teams direct access to research, tools, datasets and domain experts to jump-start prototypes and technical validation.

During this session, participants will get an inside look at how 3D technologies are transforming medicine, rehabilitation, and sports.

  • Introduction to RSU 3D Lab and our work in applying 3D technologies in medicine.
  • Overview of workflows, opportunities, and benefits of using 3D technologies.
  • Practical examples of 3D applications in rehabilitation, sports, and adaptive sports.

Interactive part: Discussion, networking, and hands-on experience — try 3D scanning yourself and explore real 3D-printed prototypes used in medical applications.

Location: Medicīnas izglītības tehnoloģiju centrs, Anniņmuižas bulvāris 26A, Rīga

Participation in this event is optional.

RTU Innovative Product Development Unit has extensive experience in innovative product development, prototyping, and user-centered design. Our multidisciplinary team supports industry players, researchers, and startups in transforming ideas into tangible solutions through end-to-end product development—from research and concept design to functional prototypes and manufacturing preparation.

We offer comprehensive services including 3D printing, 3D scanning, CNC milling and turning, mold making, and low-volume silicone or urethane casting, enabling startups, companies, scientists, and innovators to bring their ideas to life efficiently and effectively.

If you choose to visit us, you will have the chance to meet our experts in:

  • Electronic engineering (electronic systems development)
  • Virtual and mixed reality (digital prototyping)
  • Mechanical engineering (metalwork, 3D printing)
  • Industrial design (3D CAD modeling considering aesthetics, ergonomics, and usability).

You will also have the possibility to visit RTU TheLAB – an open-type workshop where RTU students, employees and scientists have an opportunity to materialize their inventions by using the technological capabilities of 3D printing, laser cutting and engraving, plotting, large-format printing and other auxiliary tools.
